Our Works in Class Today

1. Scripts based on Sonnet-18 was returned with extensive comments to each writer. 
2. We then shifted to a Writing Task based on the summary of the Novel "Heat and Dust." This writing practice shows that some of the participants find it difficult to write dialogues between characters. প্রায় সকলেরই আগ্রহ - বর্ননার মাধ্যমে ঘটনাকে ব্যাখ্যা করা। 
   
3. Finally, we completed the first 50 words of the vocabulary list. A printout of the 100 words were provided. Students first read out 5 words each, and then we went through a discussion of words and used them in sentence. শব্দগুলোকে উচ্চারন করে পড়তে বলা হয়েছে। অর্থ মুখস্থ করার কোনো প্রয়োজন নেই।
4. In addition, I discussed the topic of using folk-oriented language in playwriting and suggested reading T. S. Eliot's "Tradition and Individual Talent." The name of কবি জসিমউদ্দিন also came up as he is considered by literary scholars as the quintessential poet of the folk-tradition. 
5. It was also mentioned in the class that major Modernist Bengali Poets starting from 1930s till 1990s were hugely influenced by T. S. Eliot's ideas about tradition. Names of বুদ্ধদেব বসু, সুধিন্দ্রনাথ দত্ত, জীবনানন্দ দাস, শামসুর রাহমান, এবং সৈয়দ হক came up who were also trained through their acquaintance (পরিচয়) of Anglophone poetry and had been directly influenced by Eliot's theory of Tradition and Individual Talent.
6. Finally, I gave the names of six Novels which will be used as writing Prompts of short plays. The novels are: (a) Heart of Darkness; (b) Tess of the d'Urbervilles; (c) Great Expectations; (d) Moby Dick first chapter; (e) Passage to India + Howard's End.  
7. The above novels will be given to class as summaries in ONE class and will be given to 5 groups. The 3-member groups will discuss the theme and storyline of their selected Novel and then they will write dialogues. 
8. এই সপ্তাহ থেকে এসাইনমেন্ট দেয়া শুরু হবে। ডেড-লাইনের পর কোনো অবস্থাতেই এসাইনমেন্ট নেয়ার তারিখ পরিবর্তন করা হবে না।
9. একটি ছোটো পরীক্ষার মধ্য দিয়ে ৫ জন English Language Fellow নির্বাচন করা হবে। এই গ্রুপটি আরো নিবিড়ভাবে English (reading+writing+listening+speaking) প্র্যাকটিস করবেন। টার্গেট থাকবে বিভিন্ন আন্তর্জাতিক পরীক্ষায় অংশগ্রহন।
