নাট্যকারদের জন্য এক ডজন টিপস (বের হয়েছিলো The Guardian পত্রিকায় ২০০৮ সালে)

1. সর্বদা গল্প বলুন-লিখুনঃ People tell stories all the time. Look for them and you'll soon start spotting them everywhere, from newspapers to snatches of overheard conversation. গল্পগুলো আপনার চারপাশে ছড়িয়ে আছে - খবরের কাগজে, কানে আসা কোনো কথোপকথনে, ময়-মুরুব্বির গল্পে, ইতিহাসের পাতায়। 
2. নিজেকে জিজ্ঞাসা করুন - "আচ্ছা, আমার গল্পটা আসলে কি? Ask yourself what your story is. You could try summarising it in a sentence or two and sticking it by your desk, so you can keep it in mind.
3. লেখালেখি-কে অভ্যাসে পরিনত করুনঃ Get into the habit of writing. If you're short on time, try writing little but often.
4. যতবার পারেন কাটাকাটি করুনঃ Overwrite, then cut. তবে ভুলেও বলে দিবেন না যেন, সবশেষ সত্যটা আসলে কি। 
5. কেউ অবচেতনে লেখে, কেউ প্ল্যান করে বেশি (আপনি কোনটা?) Some tend to write subconsciously, some tend to plan more. Do whatever works for you.
6. আপনার চরিত্রদের একটা কঠিন সমস্যা সমাধান করতে দিনঃ Give your main character obstacles to overcome. He/she should have changed by the end of the play, if only fractionally. নাটকের শেষে কিছুটা হলেও তাঁর পরিবর্তন চাই। 
7. আপনার চরিত্ররা কি চায়? কি উদ্দেশ্য তাঁদের? প্রতি দৃশ্যেই তাঁদের এই চাওয়া-পাওয়া পরিবর্তন হতে পারেঃ What are your characters' wants and objectives? These might change from scene to scene.
8. আপনার চরিত্রদের জীবনের চেয়েও বড় মাপে দেখুন! আঁকুন! Make your characters extraordinary or larger than life in some way.
9. আপনার চরিত্রদের সাবটেক্সট কি সেটা বোঝার চেষ্টা করুন। মনে রাখবেন মানুষ সাধারনতঃ যা বলতে চায় তা কখনোই মুখে বলে না - কিংবা, যা ভাবছে, তার ঠিক উল্টো কথাটাই বলে! Think about the subtext of your characters and remember that people often don't say what they want to say - or say the opposite of what they think. 
10. 
    আপনার চরিত্রদের সামনে বসিয়ে "হট-সিট" করুন। আপনি নিজেই এক চরিত্র হয়ে অন্য আরেকজনকে প্রশ্ন করতে দিন!  You might find it useful to "hot seat" your characters. Assume of one of your characters and get someone to ask you questions about yourself.
11. লেখা শেষ হলে - উচ্চারন করে পড়ূন। Read your play out loud to yourself. 
12. লেখা শেষ - ভাবার কোনো দরকার নেই। কয়েকদিন রেখে দিন - ভুলে যান। আবার পড়ুন, আবার এডিট করুন। Don't rush your script to the editor/instructor. Put it on shelf for a day or two, then have another look at it and ask yourself whether you're happy with it.
    
13. গত বছরের নাট্যকারদের কাছ থেকেও কিছু টিপস পাবো বলে আশা রাখি।
